An Integrated Medical Convertible Wheelchair with IoT Based Surveillance System for Patient Monitoring: Design and Development

This paper represents the design and development of a smart wheelchair that can transform into bed and has an Internet of Things (IoT) based infusion pump. Very little work has been explored in the area of fabrication of smart wheelchairs. Survey reported by NSSO in 2011 showed that disability is a public health problem in our country and a wheelchair is the most important equipment used for disable people. A wheelchair that can transform into bed performs a better solution for a disable person. It has been also analysed that for a disable person or in an emergency situation there is need of some advanced technology that can transfer patient medical data to the doctor, so that an emergency medicine can be provided to the patient. By understanding all these problems current work focuses on the design and fabrication of a smart wheelchair cum bed which enables an IoT based infusion pump unit. The design is done by keeping in mind the safety of the patient, stability of design structure, and durability of the unit. This prototype can easily be movable due to its foldable feature. Vital parameters of the patient will be transmitted to the doctor's mobile using an android application and the doctor can control the infusion drug supply through its mobile from a remote location. This integrated medical convertible wheelchair enabled with IoT based infusion pump and vital parameter unit can be used at home, hospital or inside an ambulance. This research work helps a lot to society due its ergonomic design and advanced features.
