Power Parameters of a Dipole Antenna Placed over a Two-Layer Dielectric Medium

The power parameters of the short horizontal symmetrical dipole antenna, located in the immediate vicinity of a flat-layered medium composed of two lossy dielectrics are numerically analyzed. Calculations were performed in the frequency range of 1–100 MHz, which is interesting for lunar low-frequency and ultra-low-frequency radio astronomy. The layered medium is composed of two dielectrics, parameters similar to Moon's minerals, regolith, and basalt. The frequency dependences of the impedance, the radiation efficiency, and the effective area of a thin wire dipole with a short length are investigated. All calculations were carried out by simulation of the dipole using the Altair FEKO software.
