Self-Healing Motif-Based Distributed Routing Algorithm for Mega-Constellation

The emerging satellite Internet constellation requires deploying hundreds of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and provides high-speed broadband internet service for global ground terminals, but it is a vital challenge to large-scale, highly dynamic satellites networking. We analyze the mega-constellation network characteristics, design a self-healing motif model to build a bridge between a single satellite and mega-constellation, and propose a self-healing motif-based distributed routing (SMDR) algorithm to calculate the path between any two satellites efficiently, which integrates the self-healing motif routing algorithm and the Min-Hop algorithm to reduce the routing decision's overhead significantly. Simulation results show that the SMDR algorithm can improve the convergence speed dozens of times by sacrificing less than 9% of the hop count or Round-Trip Time (RTT) and achieve rapid fault recovery with lower computational overhead.
