Chemical Sensors based on Organic Field-Effect Transistors for Real-Sample Analysis

Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) are promising candidates for chemical sensor platforms because of their beneficial features including switching properties, mechanical flexibility, and applicability to printing methods for high-throughput manufacturing. OFETs functionalized with molecular recognition materials quantitatively show changes in transistor characteristics through the detection of analytes in aqueous media. In other words, the detectability of the OFET-based chemical sensor relies on the selection of molecular recognition materials. Herein, we propose a comprehensive approach for accurate real-sample analysis by using the OFET-based chemical sensors functionalized with biogenic and artificial molecular recognition materials.
