Performance analysis of CSVCO using CMOS and Beyond CMOS Technologies - A Review

This paper compares the performance of a Current starved voltage-controlled oscillator (CSVCO) operating at 5 GHz to examine how the device performs with various technology nodes retaining the same circuit. This study shows the comparative analysis of five stage current starved voltage-controlled oscillator (CSVCO) with effect to 180nm, 90nm, 45nm, FINFET, CNTFET and NCFET technologies. The same design is examined with respect to phase noise, power consumption, operating frequency and figure of merit. This design is simulated in cadence virtuoso software with GPDK 180nm,90nm,45nm, FINFET, CNTFET, NCFET with the supply voltages of 1.8V,1V,0.45V,0.8,0.5V, 0.5V respectively. Obtained power from 180nm, 90nm, 45nm,FINFET,CNTFET and NCFET technologies is 0.67mW, 0.02mW, 0.0017mW, 0.04mW, 0.03mW, 0.045mW, respectively.Figure of merit is also measured and noted. Phase noise obtained from 180nm, 90nm, 45nm, FINFET,CNTFET and NCFET are -99.2dBc/Hz, -78.3dBc/Hz, - 93.3dBc/Hz, -80.9dBc/Hz, -81.63dBc/Hz, -80.54dBc/Hz respectively.
