A Broadband Absorption of Graphene-Based Random-Layered Photonic Crystals for Terahertz Applications

This study investigates the graphene-based random-layered photonic crystals’ broadband absorption properties. In order to calculate the absorption spectra, a 4$\times$ 4 characteristic matrix technique was used. The findings demonstrate that the suggested model achieves broadband absorption with an absorption value of more than 90% in the frequency range of 1.4 to 3.33 THz. Compared to the periodic configuration, the suggested absorber offers reduced variations in the chosen absorption band. By reducing the refractive index of the spacer layer, these oscillations in the chosen absorption band are further suppressed. The behavior of absorption is strongly influenced by the magnetic bias. For LCP waves, the introduction of a positive magnetic field increases the absorption bandwidth and reduces fluctuations; however, this is not the case for RCP waves. The suggested absorber has several uses in Terahertz communications, sensing, and imaging.
