NLOS Vehicle Detection and Localization for Automotive Application

This paper considers the detection and localization problem for the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) front-front vehicle obscured by the line-of-sight (LOS) front vehicle. Specifically, we first analyze the exploration effects of the radar echoes propagating along the ground reflection path and the side vehicle reflection path via the real data and confirm the ground reflection path can be reliably utilized to detect the front-front vehicle. Then, we establish the ground reflection electromagnetic wave propagation model and the CFAR technique is utilized to acquire the front-front vehicle's range. Next, the multi-channel phase comparison method is exploited to obtain the position of the NLOS front-front vehicle. Finally, the experiment results validate that the NLOS front-front vehicle can be detected and located depending on the ground reflection path.
