Modeling of Light Transfer in Spatially Correlated Media for Functionally Specified Scenes

A method of light transfer in spatially correlated media for functionally specified scenes is presented. In nature, environments have density, and obstacles in them cannot be considered as uncorrelated. Therefore, the method takes into account the free path of particles between collisions with scattering elements and local volume correlation. Otherwise, a density that depends only on coordinates, time and velocity cannot describe the motion of particles. It is necessary to introduce an additional independent variable — the free run length. A method of light transfer in correlated media is described, which removes the limitations of the original equation of non-classical light transfer, including the analysis of boundary conditions. This was made possible by extending the Boltzmann equation for correlated media. An analytical expression of the transmission coefficient for positive and negative correlation was applied. As a result, we obtained a compact representation of the spatial correlation, depending on the direction, based on the distribution of scattering elements.A sampling method was also developed for using the model in volumetric visualization. With the help of the presented method, the transfer of light inside correlated media is accurately modeled. The method is developed taking into account its suitability for visualization. Multiple light sources, particle mixtures, and directional correlation are used.
