A Nonlinear Model of Transmitarray and Reflectarray Unit Cells based on PIN Diodes

During this study a linear and nonlinear characteristic of the 1-bit reconfigurable transmitarray and reflectarray unit cells are discussed. The nonlinear models of the reconfigurable transmitarray and reflectarray unit cells based on PIN diodes are proposed. With respect to the proposed nonlinear model the dependences of the insertion loss from input power and bias voltage for transmitarray and reflectarray unit cells are obtained. For both type of the unit cells third-order intermodulation distortions was analyzed as a function of the input power for certain values of bias voltages. Simulation results shows that both transmitarray and reflectarray unit cells have different characteristics but with couple similar features. Both types of the unit cells have threshold value of input power. Higher this power nonlinear distortion level is not dependent on bias voltage. Developed models of the unit cells could be used for determining of optimal operation ranges for transmitarray and reflectarray antenna systems.
