Switched Reluctance Motor with C-Dump Converter

One of the best induction motor challengers is switched reluctance motor. It is a popular option due to its sturdiness, simplicity, uncomplicated design and excellent torque to mass ratio. In switched reluctance motor, currents in stator winding directly impacts the torque produced. In order to cut off the current as fast as possible while it is working in demagnetizing mode, a high negative voltage must be provided. The design of the C-dump converter is discussed in this article. The C-Dump converter enables rapid demagnetization and magnetization of phase winding, which prohibits the motor from operating in generating state. To adjust speed, power, and operation, switched reluctance motors show a range of converter topologies. It also tends to make use of the accumulated energy in the phase winding, which can be provided back to the source. This stored energy can be used by some modified C-Dump converter topologies to escape the motor's next phase winding.
