Recent Developments Used for Early Detection of Diabetic Macular Edema by Retinal Images: A survey

Diabetic macular edema (DME) is a common disease of the human eye. This disease is a complication of diabetes, which causes blood clots in the eye and leads to a defect in vision. Early detection of this disease leads to reduced consequences for the patient. This paper provides a comprehensive summary of this disease, its classifications, algorithms and techniques used within this field. Employing machine learning or deep learning artificial intelligence algorithms, an automated system can readily fulfil this role, especially in the case of early DME screening. The traditional and new approaches for identifying all stages of diabetic macular edema are described in this paper. The authors also suggest future options for resolving present DME research obstacles.
