Research on Nomenclature of Scientific Software Variables in Communication Field

Scientific software in the communication field is generally difficult to read and maintain. Therefore., this article designs a questionnaire for teachers and students majoring in communications. The analysis of the results of the questionnaire shows that the non-standard variable naming method is one of the main reasons for this phenomenon. Through in-depth exchanges with respondents., we first extract the characteristics of such software: complex domain knowledge., small scale., multiple development requirements., and no unified coding style for development teams. Based on these characteristics we propose a nomenclature - “Nomenclature of scientific software in communication field”. The nomenclature is then applied to the simulation experiments of a dual-cavity optical feedback interferometry (OFI) system with Lang-Kobayashi equations variable naming as an example., and the practical application shows that the nomenclature can effectively improve the readability and maintainability of such software.
