Wideband Dual-port Dual-band Antenna With Large Frequency Ratio

A wideband dual-port dual-band antenna, which integrates a hollow dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with a dielectric Fabry–Perot resonator antenna (FPRA) is presented. The DRA and FPRA are excited by a probe and a wideband microstrip antenna, respectively. By using a hollow rectangular dielectric resonator, the impedance bandwidth of the DRA can be expanded without affecting the radiation of FPRA in the microwave band. The FPRA adopts a double-layer substrate with positive slope phase frequency characteristics as a partial reflection surface (PRS) and an air-loaded slot coupled microstrip antenna as a feed network to realize its wideband design in the millimeter-waveband. To validate the idea, a dual-port dual-band antenna covering both the 2.4 and 26 GHz bands was designed. The DRA operates in its TE
11δ
mode with a wide impedance bandwidth of 27.8% (2.26–2.99 GHz), and the FPRA operates in its fundamental mode with a wide impedance bandwidth of 23.8% (22.91–29.1 GHz). The S-parameters, radiation patterns and antenna gains of the wideband dual-port dual-band antenna are studied in detail. The isolation between two ports is higher than 30 dB.
