Comparison of Different Performance Metrics for MIMO Antenna Evaluations

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is the core technology of the modern and next generation mobile communication systems. To better characterize the performance of MIMO antennas, various metrics have been proposed. The accuracies of three metrics, diversity measure, envelope correlation coefficient for multiple antennas (ECC-M), and spatial multiplexing (SM) efficiency are discussed in this paper. The results show that these three metrics have their own characteristics in evaluating the performance of MIMO antennas. It is necessary to combine multiple metrics for more accurate evaluation when designing and optimizing MIMO antennas.
