Biography
Charles N. Ironside (M’87–SM’05) received the first degree and the Ph.D. degree in physics from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K., in 1974 and 1978, respectively.,From 1978 to 1984, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at the University of Oxford, U.K. He has been in the School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, U.K., since 1984. He has been involved in a variety of optoelectronic projects that include ultrafast all-optical switching in semiconductor waveguides, monolithic mode-locked semiconductor lasers, broad-band semiconductor lasers, quantum cascade lasers, and optoelectronic integrated chip devices.(Based on document published on 25 January 2013).
