Biography
Erik H.M. Heijne studied solid-state physics in Amsterdam and came to CERN in 1973 to work on silicon detectors for monitoring of the neutrino beams. Higher detection rates and better precision on the measurements of particle impacts could be achieved by use of segmented silicon devices: microstrip detectors in 1980 and micropattern pixel detectors in 1989. The establishment at CERN of a CMOS design team in 1987 enabled optimization of integrated readout for each type of particle detector. In 1995 he introduced a different approach to make circuits radhard. Since 2000, he has been active in the team at CERN that develops the Medipix and Timepix imagers for particles and X-rays. After formal retirement in 2010, he continues to work on this a... Author's Published Works
