Biography
Jean-Claude Latombe received the PhD degree in computer science from the University of Grenoble, Grenoble, France, in 1977. In 1987, he joined Stanford University, where he is currently the Kumagai professor of engineering in the Computer Science Department. At Stanford, he served as the chairman of the Computer Science Department from 1997 to 2001. He has been a visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, the Tecnológico de Monterrey, and the National University of Singapore. His research interests include robotics, motion planning, computational biology, surgical simulation, and graphic animation of digital characters.
