I. Introduction
Cultural heritage plays an important role in many aspects of the way a community develops. Housing, education, economic growth and community engagement are few examples showing how heritage assets positively affects the social life. In this context, conservation and restoration aim at preserving physical and cultural characteristics thus extending the life of cultural heritage assets and ensuring that their value keeps unaltered in time. Moreover, monitoring is essential to collect useful information aimed at planning restoration and consolidation interventions and avoid possible damages. In this wide and complex frame, the use of non-invasive and non-destructive methods, ensuring the collection of the required information while preserving physical and chemical integrity of materials, is advisable.
