I. Introduction
Water covers 70 percent of our planet, and it is one of the most vital resources for sustaining life. Marine water quality is fundamentally essential for all plants and animals that depend on the ocean. Marine Pollution affects the growth and succession pattern of phytoplankton [1]. Urbanisation and industrialisation are greatly responsible for the degradation of aquatic ecosystems [2]. As a result of human activities, approximately 6.5 million tons of litter is dumped into the oceans each year [3]. Studies carried out during the last twenty years at Visakhapatnam harbor revealed that over the years, the concentration of nitrites, dissolved oxygen, and phosphates has increased beyond permissible limits [4]. Generally, water quality is determined by comparing the physical and chemical characteristics of a water sample with water quality guidelines or standards. Water Quality Index (WQI) is a single number that combines several water quality parameters [5]. The higher the value of WQI, the poorer the water quality.
