I. Introduction
The Philippines having about 36,289 km of coastline and 7,641 islands requires continuing development in the area of maritime transportation. The “bangka”, an indigenous marine transport vehicle, is a primary transportation for many island and coastal communities in the country including tourist spots. A project entitled “Safe, Efficient, and Sustainable Solar-Assisted Plug-in Electric Boat (SESSY E-Boat)” in collaboration of Mapua University, Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), Department of Energy (DOE), and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), aims to acquire pertinent information on the development and adoption of electric motorboats assisted by solar energy for sustainable transportation.
