Abstract:
This paper analyses a crammer selection process (CSP) applied to thousands of candidates from Brazilian public schools. The approved ones are granted a place in a crammer that is free of charge and committed to preparing them for university entrance exams. Either in a venue or online this CSP employs the Classical Test Theory, which however raises doubt regarding its fairness of tie-breaker criteria. Hence we contrasted the CSP current approach with the Item Response Theory (IRT). Our results reveal that the IRT method can substantially improve the CSP.
