I. Introduction
The continuous advancements and improvements of technological systems for automotive applications is rapidly growing the interest in reliability and fault diagnosis of electronics [1]–[3]. For instance, electric cars and self-driving vehicles extensively rely on electronic and telecommunication devices to ensure the proper expected behavior of the vehicle and consequently to mitigate its related risk. Internet of Things (IoT) [4], smart sensors [5], condition monitoring systems [6] and diagnostic units [7] are examples of innovative electronic technologies that are more and more commonly integrated in automotive applications. Unfortunately, this leading innovation is coming with a critical increase of number and variety of possible failures that deeply influence the system performances by a reliability and availability point of view [8]–[10].
