Abstract:
The recent dramatic growth in electric vehicles has brought renewed attention to their motors and power electronics. Of the motors used for electric vehicles, the DC motor and the three phase induction motor are well-studied. Developing countries have created their own solutions for electric vehicles, especially with the Brushless DC Motor (BLDC). The less investigated three phase BLDC motor presents challenges for control of the transient and steady-state response, overshoot, rise time, settling time, etc. A lapse in the control can cause the system to become unstable and reduce the life of components. In this paper, a BLDC motor for electric vehicles is studied with the Modified Proportional-Integral (MPI) controller and logic gates for the drives. The design allows reduction of overshoot to an estimated 5 % and the settling time to 2 seconds This study is expected to contribute to the applications of the BLDC, especially for electric vehicles.
