1 Introduction
High voltage power cables are essential components of power system. In normal operation, power cables may suffer insultation degradation because of the environmental, mechanical and electrical factors. Therefore, considering that the failure of power cables during lifetime would lead to higher maintenance costs, the status monitoring of power cables becomes more and more important [1]. As a main form of early cable insulation failure, partial discharge (PD) can be an effective monitoring technology for cable fault. In general, PD fault diagnosis for cables can be divided into three directions: PD fault detection [2]–[4], PD fault location [5]–[13] and pattern recognition of PD fault [14]–[16]. This paper only focuses on the study of PD fault location for power cables.
