Abstract:
As the capabilities of remote sensing devices keep improving, large amounts of Earth Observation (EO) data are being generated by satellites every day, recording the status of environment. The EO data produced are drastically expanding in precision, quantity and size. However, the capacity of managing, retrieving and reasoning the big EO data from heterogeneous EO data sources across the world is very limited. In this paper, we propose a data model to develop mechanisms of describing geographical resources using properties, expressing the relations in EO data, and capturing the implicit knowledge in the given facts. We formalize the model using first order logic and demonstrate the implementation of the model using OWL and Jena.
