I. Introduction
A tractor-trailer system consists of a towing engine (i.e., a tractor) and several articulated trailers that carry commercial cargo. Compared with a rigid-body vehicle of the same length, a tractor-trailer vehicle turns around with a smaller radius and thus is more agile. This merit has given rise to the wide applications of tractor-trailer systems particularly in sinuous or cluttered scenarios [1]. Buses, trams, trains, trucks and even the robotic floor cleaner are all real-world examples of a tractor-trailer system.
