INTRODUCTION
Over the past several decades, quartz crystal resonators (XTALs) and oscillators (XOs) have been used for timing applications in almost all electronic systems due to their stability and superior electrical performance such as low phase noise and frequency stability. Several alternative technologies, including MEMS oscillators [1] have been trying to replace quartz crystals. Fig. 1 below outlines the primary reasons why system architects prefer MEMS oscillators.
