I. Introduction
SRM due to its several advantages such as simple and rugged construction, high efficiency, high torque to inertia ratio and thermal robustness has emerged as an attractive option for variable speed drives. The principles of operation of this machine are simple, well known and based on reluctance torque. The machine is doubly salient, where rotor has no conductor or permanent magnet and stator of wound-up salient poles that after energizing in synchronous with the position of the rotor develops a torque that tends to align the poles in a way that diminishes the reluctance in the magnetic circuit [1]–[7].
