I. Introduction
Three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors are commonly used in commercial and industrial applications [1]. The motors are rugged and reliable. They are very cheap when compared to synchronous machines, and permanent magnet synchronous motors. Conventionally, the motor speed can be controlled by varying the applied input voltage [2]. The preferred method of speed control is to change the frequency of the input voltage using the VFD [3]. This VFD is an electronic device that enables the control of the induction motor at different speeds based on the requirements. Applications such as pumps, ventilation systems, elevators, and machine tool drives, often require VFD control [4].
