Abstract:
National strategies have been critical in defining how digital technologies are used in higher education (HE). This study draws on some analyses of digital teaching and learning strategies released by the Indonesian government. It exemplifies that, across the strategies, digital technologies are portrayed as instruments for progressing neoliberal principles in Indonesian higher education. Paradoxically, the strategies are also riddled with inconsistencies and ambiguity regarding the asserted connections between digital technologies, learning, and markets. This problematic portrayal of digital technologies makes them complicit in the neoliberal erosion of Indonesian HE. This study contends that the problematic representation of digital technologies contributes to their involvement in the neoliberal erosion of Indonesian HE.
