I. Introduction
Brush-less DC motors (BLDCM) are most commonly found in light electric vehicles, industrial robots, mixers, grinders, dryers, ventilators, and air conditioners. Trapezoidally excited BLDCMs have a higher power density, good operating power factor (PF), and less maintenance. Generally, BLDCM require DC input power for its operation. The diode bridge rectifier (DBR) can provide constant DC voltage, but at the expense of poor PF and low power quality. DBR-fed power factor correction (PFC) converter has reduced conversion efficiency, but it improves operating PF and total harmonic distortion (THD) of input current. However, a bridge-less (BL) PFC converter offers controlled DC voltage, superior power quality indices and better conversion efficiency.
