1 Introduction
Ever since its conception, Petri nets have been widely used for modeling, analyzing, designing and controlling of complex concurrent systems [1] [2]. While there is adequate research still underway detailing how it can be applied to different systems, a growing interest in the recent years has led to the development of a new discipline that paves way to propose adaptive features in the extended Petri net models. In this review, we aim to summarize the research efforts that have been put forth specifically in the. area of adaptive Petri nets which have generated. greater interest in the research community. Such approaches took advantage of some general developments in the area of intelligent techniques such as Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Fuzzy Logic (FL) and Knowledge Based Systems (KBS). All the efforts were aimed at modifying or developing models that can bring adaptable feature to Petri nets.
