1) Introduction
This work aims at advancing fundamental research in computer vision and visual-speech processing. A number of glove-based and vision-based techniques have been used for exploring American Sign Language (ASL) and the analysis of drawing gestures. We are interested in vision-based techniques, which are a more natural way of constructing a human-computer interface. The major initial objectives of this research are: (1) Develop a set of feature models for each ASL image and (2) Design algorithms for ASL feature vector recognition.
