I. Introduction
Strongly-Guiding waveguides, with high-refractive-index contrast and sub-wavelength dimension form important components for realizing compact photonic integrated circuits and novel all-optical devices. With the rapid development of silicon nanophotonics in recent years, the study of commonly encountered geometries, such as waveguide end facet and waveguide discontinuities are important and necessary for efficient design and characterization of various integrated photonic devices.
