I. Introduction
Society depends on coal based energy production which will continue to do so for decades into the future. However concerns about climate change due to emissions of CO2 from coal utilization need to be addressed for coal-based power utilities. Novel coal power generation concepts have been proposed to achieve zero emission of CO2 to the atmosphere, while attaining very high efficiencies of up to 68%. Many of these new processes rely on CO2 adsorbing material as the core technology, but suitable adsorbents are yet to be developed.
