I. Introduction
Since wireless sensor networks support small inexpensive energy-efficient devices operating on battery power, the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for low-data-rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPANs) is considering wireless sensor networks as one of the candidates for fourth-generation wireless network technology [1], [2]. The success of wireless sensor networks as a technology depends on the success of the standardization attempts to integrate markets and avoid the proliferation of proprietary and incompatible protocols that limit the size of the overall wireless sensor market.
