I. Introduction
Within the modern competitive business world there is a frequent need for enterprises to modify the structure of their business processes to become more successful in the market place. The design and management of business processes is a key factor for companies to effectively compete in today's volatile business environment. By focusing on the optimisation and continuous improvement of business processes, organisations can establish a solid competitive advantage by reducing cost, improving quality and efficiency, and enabling adaptation to changing requirements. Multiobjective optimisation of business processes can result in novel approaches and more efficient ways of business process improvement since more than one optimisation criteria can be satisfied concurrently. The next section examines the relevant work in the specific subject area; the rest of the paper introduces a multi-objective optimisation framework for formally defined business process models.
